Decorative One-Stroke Painting Workshops
with Janet Regelman
Mondays, 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
$20 class fee or $18 member rate per weekly workshop plus the listed materials fee
Based on the One-Stroke Painting method made popular by Donna Dewberry, each workshop completes a different project. All materials are provided. Once you’ve learned the technique, you can do lots of projects at home. Sign up for one workshop or all of them!

Creative Printmaking

Use glass to create monoprints with watercolors, print from a carved design, use photo-sensitive paper to create nature prints and more. The possibilities are endless.
Storybook Art

This class will use Caldecott award-winning children's books as inspiration for projects. Explore ideas and techniques used by famous illustrators while creating projects of our own. Students will use a variety of materials and techniques.
Mixing It Up With Paint
for grades 1-6

Try your hand at impasto, wet on wet painting and using science to add texture. This is a fun class for those who like to experiment.
Beginning Knitting
for adults/teens

Learn the basics of knitting. Our first project will be a scarf. As students progress, Meeghan will coach them through a project of their choice. For the first class, bring 1 skein of worsted weight yarn and size 8 or 9 straight needles. Choose a smooth yarn as bumpy and eyelash yarns are difficult to learn with.
Wild Animal Drawing
for ages 10 - 17

We will illustrate a variety of animals from North America using contour drawing, shading and foreshortening.
Advanced Drawing
for ages 15 & up

Taught by Ralph Bacon, a professional artist with three decades of experience, this class is for the student who already has good drawing skills and would like to expand their technique. Please bring samples of your drawings to the first class and be prepared to talk about what you would like to get out of the class. Ralph will design lessons to address the interests of the participants. There will be weekly drawing assignments to complete between lessons. Students will work in graphite, conte and charcoal. High school students should consider this class as an opportunity to build your portfolio.

Art Explorers

We will use paints, pastels, markers, ink pen, watercolors and colored pencils in different combinations. We may even do some sculpture. If your child likes art and trying new things, they will love this class.
How to Draw People

Learn the correct proportions for drawing the head and body. Learn to flesh out your sketches and develop confidence in figure drawing.
Mapping out Portraits
for grades 6 - 9

Learn to use the average proportions of the human head to place the features of the subject and learn how to create a more realistic portrait. Kristina will also demonstrate how to draw the subject from ¾ view. As time allows, students may also play with drawing the human head in caricature or cartoon style.
Fused Gems Workshop
for adults/teens

Make a handful of glass "gems" in a small kiln. Learn basic techniques for making pendants, earrings, pins, tie tacks, etc. Each student will design 6-8 glass gems. Jewelry findings will be available for purchase from the instructor at the last class. The last hour of the first class is spent minding the kiln. This is optional for students but many will want to see the whole process.
Wire Wrapping Workshop

PMC is a type of clay in which microscopic particles of fine silver are suspended in an organic binder. After the piece is fired, your creation is a solid piece of fine silver (.999). We will explore this new media as we make earrings and a pendant. Students wishing to purchase extra clay should make advance arrangements.

Preschool Art Expression

Students will learn to relate their projects to a story or idea and will receive instruction in the proper use and care of materials. Students will be encouraged to develop confidence through doing. Dress for a mess.

Students will make a place setting of dishes for 2 people -- two cups, bowls and plates and an additional serving piece. We will learn slab building techniques, surface design and glazing.
Nature Arts

We will work outside as weather permits making a t-shirt using leaves, flowers and other items collected from the Arts Center grounds. We will also make fish prints, watercolor nature prints, sun prints, sand candles and more.
Watercolor Techniques for adults/teens

We will work outdoors as much as weather permits. Plan to make at least a couple of trips off site to the beach or a local flower garden. Each class will include demonstrations of technique and painting time. Students will also work on developing a field box for painting outdoors.

The success of a finished artwork, whether in watercolor, acrylic or oil, depends very much on the base drawing used to lay out the work. Develop skills to create the design for paintings.

This is a beginning course that will teach the "A to Z's." A materials list is available however; the instructor prefers that you purchase materials after she reviews them at the first class. If you already have supplies, bring them.
Beginning Encaustic Monoprinting
for adults/teens

Limited to 6 - 8 students

This is an introduction to the use of encaustics (wax) on paper. You will learn several methods of doing monoprints with colored waxes. This is truly an experience of instant gratification, as the wax bonds immediately with the paper. Come explore the possibilities Each student will complete 4-5 compositions.

Must register one week in advance. No power tools will be used except a battery powered drill. We will build one project each week. Every class will include some basic wood technology instruction as well as hand tool use and finshes.Safety is our first priority. Goggles will be provided or you can bring your own safety glasses, but eye protection must be worn. Also, don’t wear nice clothes. We will use stains and finshes that can be messy.
